To encourage innovative ventures of global standard and to take them to the global market, country’s first ever it incubator has launched today at the janata tower, Dhaka. It is a joint initiative of the ict division of Bangladesh government and mobile phone operator Banglalink.
Country’s first ever it incubator has been inaugurated by sajeebwazed, ict affairs advisor to the prime minister of Bangladesh. The event has been graced by the presence of Annisul Huq, mayor, Dhaka north city corporation; Houlin Zhao, secretary general of international telecommunication union (itu);Zunaid Ahmed Palak, state minister for ict;dr. Shahjahan Mahmood, chairman, btrc; Shyam Sunder Sikder, secretary of ict division;Hosne ara Begum, managing director, Bangladesh hi-tech park authority; augie k. fabela, co-founder, vimpelcom and Erik Aas, ceo of Banglalink. Representatives from ict division, basis, bcc, hi-tech park authority, bcs and bacco were also present at the event.
Attending to the program as guest of honour, the secretary general of the international telecommunicationunion (itu), houlin zhao, said“i congratulate the Bangladesh government for this bold initiative, which puts tech entrepreneurship at the heart of the country’s ict development strategy. a supportive environment for smes and young startups is one very effective way of nurturing a vibrant, innovative ict sector, which in turn will help accelerate the development of many other sectors. Smes form an important part of the ict business and start-ups are a rich source of innovation. Indeed, they are such an important part of the equation that i believe no big company will be successful without fostering very good cooperation with smes. This is why i’ve made it a priority to ensure that itu increases its work with ict smes and start-ups.”

It’s worthwhile to mention here that it incubator is the platform to create digital entrepreneurship as a way to empower young people, give them purpose, and provide them with jobs and opportunities to be the part of global digital economy and society. It is the startups, who have grown from small to bigand have earned significant amount of revenue for themselves, as well as the nation. In light of that, ‘connecting startups 2016’ was kicked off with the aim of encouraging small and medium digital businesses as well as empowering startups. The 10 winning startups from “connecting startups” will receive complete support for 1 year at the it incubation by Banglalink.
10 winning startups will avail a free office space at the it incubation centre in janata tower software technology park, along with a dedicated mentorship and accelerator amenities for 1 year which will help them to become active contributors and beneficiaries of the evolving digital economy. The remaining 40 of the top 50 startups will get the opportunity of using co-working space. these 40 startups will get accelerator facilities for three months. ict division in collaboration with the banglalink, one of the leading digital communications service providers, has been materializing this project.
